HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 is a multi-function color printer with printing, scanning, and copying functions. It also supports mobile printing technology, such as Wireless Direct printing, Mopria Print Service, Apple AirPrint, and HP ePrint. Apart from its benefits, it also causes some of the problems like paper jam, not printing issue, fax issue, copy issue, printer hardware issue, etc. Below are some of the HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 printer troubleshooting steps.

PAPER JAM

Clear jammed paper from the input tray

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug one end of the power cord from the printer and the other end from the electrical outlet.
  • Remove the extra paper from the input tray.
  • Look inside the input tray and remove any foreign materials, such as paper clips or any other object found inside the tray.
  • Remove any extra paper or foreign materials from the output tray.
  • Plug the power cord to the back of the printer and the other end to the electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

Clear jammed paper from underneath the printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug one end of the power cord from the printer and the other end from the electrical outlet.
  • Slant the printer and rest it on its backside with the bottom facing you.
  • Press the tabs to open the clean-out door.
  • Gently remove the jammed paper or foreign materials from the inside of your printer.
  • Push the clean-out door forward and close it.
  • Slant the printer back to its original state.
  • Plug the power cord to the rear of the printer and the other end to the electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the printer.

PRINTING ISSUES

Check the power connection and then reset the printer:

  • Check whether the power cord is perfectly connected to the printer.
  • Press the Power button to switch on the printer.
  • Turn off the Power button.
  • Detach the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 15 minutes and plug it back into the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the Power button.
  • Check for an error message on the printer.

Set as default printer:

  • First, go to the Windows Start menu.
  • Next, type Control Panel in the search bar and click on it.
  • Click Hardware and Sounds > Device and Printers.
  • Locate your HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 printer and right-click on it.
  • Select Set as default printer.

Disable the Use Printer Offline option:

  • On the PC, click the Start icon.
  • Now, just type Control Panel in the search bar and click on it.
  • Click Devices and Printers and right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 printer.
  • Select See what’s printing and check if the Use Printer Offline is enabled. If yes, disable it now.

Changing the printer properties:

  • Go to Start on your Windows computer.
  • You need to type Control Panel in the search bar and click on it.
  • Choose Devices and Printers and right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 printer.
  • Select See what’s printing and choose Printer Properties from the list.
  • Go to the Port tab and select IP Address from the list.
  • Enable the SNMP status and click OK.

SCANNING ISSUES

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • If you face any issue in scanning, use HP Print and Scan Doctor to solve it.
  • Check whether paper is loaded into the input tray and turn on the printer.
  • On your computer, download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the prompts and complete the installation process.
  • Double-click on the downloaded file, click Start, and select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8717 printer.
  • Follow the instructions and solve the scanning problem.

Clean the Scanner:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Lift the scanner lid and spread a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Swipe the scanner glass, glass strip, and the white background under the scanner cover.
  • Finally, connect the power cord and turn on the printer.
